Do you love to swim, skate, tumble, or twirl? Are you interested in creating your own customized performance wear for the pool, rink, gym, or stage? This class is for you! Learn to sew and reinforce stretchy fabrics and performance wear knits. Gain confidence in how to select a design, choose appropriate fabric, cut and fit a pattern, and construct a base garment that can be embellished with rhinestones, embroidery, or other surface decoration at home. Come away with a test costume and relevant samples that you create and the confidence to tackle tricky performance wear projects in the future!
This class is open to beginning sewists who have basic sewing skills. Bring your own sewing machine, in good working order (machine must have at least one stretch stitch–see supply list for details). This is an adult-level sewing class open to youth performers who would like to learn alongside / collaborate with an accompanying adult.
Materials fee is $15, payable to the instructor at the time of class.

Instructor Bio:
Colleen Kahn (she/her) learned to sew as a child through 4-H and had the great luck to be mentored by dedicated and patient women. Colleen earned degrees in Clothing Design from College of St. Catherine and London College of Fashion. Over the years, she completed additional training and gained expertise in bridal, men’s tailoring, millinery, costume making, alterations, dyeing, surface design, and more. Colleen has spent many years sewing custom wedding and formal wear in the Twin Cities. She founded Stitch Masters Sewing School in 2021.

Withdrawal Policy
If you need to withdraw from class and you send a withdrawal request at least 5 business days before the start of your workshop, you may receive a refund (minus a $25 processing fee). Alternatively, you may transfer your full tuition to another currently listed class or convert your full tuition into a tax-deductible donation to Textile Center.
We are unable to provide a refund or make a tuition transfer if your notice of withdrawal is received less than 5 business days before the start of your workshop, except in the case of illness or health risk (please see COVID-19 tuition transfer policy here). In this case, your tuition can be converted to a tax-deductible donation to Textile Center. We will be happy to provide you with a receipt for your donation if you request one.
