Anna Carlson

Explore the fascinating process of cyanotype printing onto light-sensitized fabric. One of the oldest photographic processes, cyanotypes are created by using UV light (often in the form of natural sunlight) and iron salts to create imagery in beautiful shades of white and blue (hence the “cyan” in the title). Learn how to mix cyanotype chemistry and tone cyanotype prints with common household ingredients like coffee and black tea. Experiment with pattern design and composition by layering and exposing assorted objects. Learn about exposure times and techniques for using UV light–either from the sun or from a lamp–to print onto various fabrics. Create a unique work of art or customized fabric yardage that can be incorporated into other fiber projects. All levels welcome!

Materials fee is $5, payable to instructor at the time of class.
