DEADLINE has now passed.

Let’s celebrate Pride all year long! Textile Center is seeking local maker/artists in the LGBTQ+ community to reimagine a one-of-a-kind, fiber art Pride Flag.

As part of the Mining Mending: rethink, reuse, revive program, this flag represents our solidarity with and continued work to reinforce relationships in our community, in acknowledgement and support of the LQBTQ+ community. The flag will be prominently displayed in Textile Center year-round!

Details:

  • We are seeking proposals for a fiber art piece that is 2D, with dimensions of 3’ x 5’, to hang vertically.
  • The definition of fiber art for the purposes of this call is the following:  Fiber art uses textile and fiber arts materials, processes, histories, traditions, and/or sensibilities in the artistic and creative conception, execution, and resolution of the work. Examples of techniques include, but are not limited to weaving, quilting, knitting, crochet, sewing, dyeing, felting, needle work, lace making, basketry, and beading. Materials are broad and include any flexible linear element that can be used in the construction of the work.
  • Textile Center will provide a $1000 honorarium to the selected artist, to produce the flag to be on display at Textile Center.
  • The work needs to stand up to continuous exposure to an inside environment, including circulating air and UV exposure.
  • To align with our Declaration of Anti-racism and Commitment to Inclusion, the flag must include the colors of the progress pride flag.
  • Upon completion, the artwork will be delivered by the artist to Textile Center.
  • The artwork will need to be ready to hang, and will be installed in consultation with the artist.
  • The open call will be juried collectively by Textile Center staff, who will select the artist/proposal we feel is the best fit for Textile Center.

Timeline:

  • Deadline for application: Friday, June 30, 2023
  • Winner announced: Friday, July 7, 2023

Our goal is to have the piece installed by our artist reception for our A Common Thread exhibition on August 8, 2023.
