Join us in welcoming new education manager Cristin McKnight Sethi to the Textile Center team!

Cristin McKnight Sethi is a curator, educator, and writer with over two decades of experience working with textiles and fiber arts. She holds a Ph.D. in Art History from UC Berkeley and a Master’s in Art History from UT Austin. She has published widely on topics related to textiles, especially folk and popular textiles from South Asia. Cristin serves on the editorial board of The Textile Museum Journal and works closely with indigenous making communities in her role as Chair of the Selection Committee for the International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe.

A passionate educator, Cristin has extensive experience working with students of all ages—most recently holding teaching positions at the George Washington University and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design—and she thoroughly enjoys developing innovative and engaging arts-based curricula. She has also held curatorial and research positions at several museums including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of International Folk Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Most recently Cristin curated an exhibition at The Textile Museum in Washington, DC, titled Handmade: Creating Textiles in South Asia, which brought together contemporary work by artists in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan alongside historical textiles in the museum’s collection.

In addition to her professional work with textiles, Cristin is an avid knitter and sewer, and she loves experimenting with embroidery and natural dyeing. A California native, Cristin recently moved to the Twin Cities with her family. She is thrilled to be joining the staff of the Textile Center, and is looking forward to supporting and expanding the dynamic educational programming of the Textile Center as it moves into the future.

Next time you are at Textile Center, say hello to Cristin as you check out the artwork in the Mary Giles Gallery!
