Textile Center received a beautiful collection of 32 Scandinavian weavings, generously donated by Collector Carol Oversvee Johnson.

These weavings are for sale at Textile Center and online here, as a part of our weeklong series of events, Fiber Art for All, the last week of February 2023.

Carol’s interest in coverlets and other Scandinavian tapestries began when she was a young girl in Ballard, the Norwegian neighborhood of Seattle, WA. “During World War II, it was hard to get bedding,” she says. “My mother recalled some weavings at my grandmother’s home, and she brought home a coverlet for my bed, which kept me warm.”

Carol also recalls: “I used to go to people’s home with my grandmother, who liked to go out for coffee, and there were a lot of coverlets and pillows on peoples’ sofas. I used to analyze them, and I thought it would be fun to have some. And now I do!”

Carol makes her home in south Minneapolis with her husband, Darold, and has been a longtime member of Textile Center. She has donated these tapestries to Textile Center, hoping that they will find their way into homes of other appreciators, and that the sale of these pieces will support Textile Center’s programs.
