Riley Kleve
Explore the art of Rya weaving while creating a mini tapestry inspired by rivers, lakes, and waterfalls in this new class! Rya (pronounced “REE-ya”) is a Scandinavian style of weaving featuring rows of hand-knotted yarn, similar to shag rugs or a warm sheepskin. Ancient seafarers used rya blankets to keep warm while at sea, and the style later evolved into decorated wall-mounted tapestries to keep drafts out of living spaces.
Instructor Riley Kleve will share history and technique as you weave up a coaster-sized piece of art to bring home at the end of class. Whether inspiration comes from Minnehaha Falls, a peaceful forest stream, or a tropical coral reef, students will have oodles of yarn in many colors and textures to choose from to create a masterpiece. No experience necessary!
$25 materials fee, payable to the instructor at the start of class, includes all supplies needed for weaving projects.
This class is a part of our Fiber Art for All: Tributary festivities – celebrating Minnesota waterways and the ways that water inspires and supports fiber art techniques. Learn more about our Fiber Art for All Open House celebration on Feb 19 + 20, 2027 here!
