Learn basket weaving basics while creating a useful reed basket, perfectly sized for carrying a phone, wallet, sunglasses, or a water bottle–all necessary supplies for an urban adventurer! Using natural reed, begin with an over/under base and use start/stop weaving to gently shape the basket as you weave up the sides. Learn to lash on a rim and personalize your one-of-a-kind basket by adding colorful dyed reed. Finish with your choice of removable crossbody style strap. Some basket weaving skills are helpful but not required. All levels welcome. $35 materials fee, payable to the instructor at the start of class, includes all materials needed to make one basket.

Materials fee is $35, payable to instructor at the time of class.

Instructor Bio:

Gail Mollner (she/her) got bit by the basket weaving bug in 2018 when she took a willow basketry class taught by Jo Campbell Amsler. Since then, she has explored a variety of other materials for basket making, such as birch, cedar, pine needle and paper. Paper has been the latest obsession after discovering the art of Annetta Kraayeveld, Jackie Abrams, and Dorothy McGuinness. She continues to explore weaving materials and techniques by attending local and national basketry classes and retreats. She is a member of the Textile Center, the National Basketry Organization, and several basket weaving guilds.
