Sarah Peterson and Debbie Johnson (Twin Cities, Minnesota) have recently teamed their talents to create whisk brooms from broomcorn. They are both Textile Center staff members, so be sure to say hello if you see them in the Shop!

Sarah Peterson is a long time fiber artist, living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her fiber journey includes aspects of weaving, dyeing, cross stitch, embroidery, traditional ink making, book arts, and all things paper. More recently, her exploration has taken her into the world of basketry, both traditional and non-traditional. Sarah currently serves on the MN Basket Weavers Guild Board.

Twin Cities-based fiber artist Debbie Johnson emigrated from Canada in 1996, bringing with her a passion for creating, sewing, quilting, stitching, and crochet along with a love of nature. While living in Duluth, she was introduced to basket making and has studied throughout the US, including with Bill & Ann Smith, Sue Williams, and influences of Leon Niehues. She has taught basketry since 2001 and is a current teaching artist at Textile Center. Debbie currently serves the MN Basket Weavers Guild as President and the National Basketry Organization on the Guilds and Groups Committee, and Teachers Group.
