with Riley Kleve
Create a layered wall hanging inspired by quilts while learning the art of joomchi, a Korean fiber technique. Joomchi combines layers of handmade mulberry paper, known as hanji, together using water and kneading (similar to felting). Joomchi has layers, quilts have layers… let’s combine the two into a decorative piece for your walls!
Choose a design from a myriad of traditional quilting blocks or create a design of your own. Teaching Artist Riley Kleve will guide students through the process of creating a 12” x 12” joomchi project by carefully kneading layers of paper until they are joined together. At the end of class, students will leave with a ready-to-hang project plus a second project to finish at home. No experience with joomchi or quilting expected or required for class. Students will need good hand strength for the kneading process.
Materials fee is $30, payable to the instructor at the time of class.
