Celebrate the botanical colors of the season! Explore the art of transferring dye from plants and flowers onto fabric and paper using a hammer. Learn simple at-home techniques for preparing fabric for botanical printing. Discover the best plants and flowers to use for printing, which can be sourced from the produce market, your own backyard, or Textile Center’s Dye Garden!

NOTE: Students will be required to use an 8 oz hammer. “Pounding” get be loud, bring ear plugs if sound sensitive. Wear clothes that can get dirty for when the class is forging for plants and flowers.

Materials fee is $15, payable to instructor, and includes all necessary supplies for this class.


Instructor Bio:

Winna Bernard (she/her) has led numerous flowering pounding classes and workshops for diverse age groups and abilities, covering mordant preparation and various pounding techniques on fabric and paper. As a retired social worker and founder of a nonprofit arts organization, Winna brings strong interpersonal skills to her teaching. Her expertise also includes machine and free-motion sewing, quilting, and hand embroidery.
