Learn the art of needle lace! Also known as needlepoint lace, needle lace is a technique developed by European lacemakers between the 15th and 18th centuries that involves a sewing needle and a single thread in variations of the detached buttonhole stitch. In this “taster” class, create a stitched picture-sampler using several pattern stitches. Learn to outline motifs and to do some basic connecting, or “ground” stitches. Explore contemporary ways of using needle lace, such as working from photos or drawings, dimensional works, and experimenting with nontraditional materials. Draw inspiration from historic examples and contemporary needle lace art as you create your own work of needle lace. This class is open to beginners; however, students who are new to needle lace may benefit from taking Looping first.

Materials fee is $10, payable to the instructor at the time of class.
