Steve Pauling

Join us for a special lecture by Steve Pauling, a.k.a. the “Bobbin Doctor,” on A Brief History of the Sewing Machine (or “What you didn’t learn in school about sewing machines!”) and the popular resurgence of interest in vintage mechanical sewing machines. Despite the whiz-bang features of new computerized sewing machines, older mechanical machines have seen a resurgence of interest in recent years. In this lecture, the “Bobbin Doctor” will present a brief history of the sewing machine and explain many of the reasons why sewers are seeking out vintage machines. He will discuss the different major hook systems and why one might be better than another for different sewing applications… and your personality! Learn what to consider in purchasing an older machine and which types of machines are best suited for your particular sewing interests.
