Textile Center, in collaboration with Khazana Arts and Textiles, is thrilled to welcome Hemangini Rathore — acclaimed textile designer and founder of Sudarshan artist collective — to the Twin Cities from Jaipur, Rajasthan, India for a 3-day Guest Teaching Artist workshop. Learn from Hemangini how to create one of Sudarshan’s iconic hand-dyed, -printed, and -stitched garments. Hemangini will guide participants through her surface design process of modifying traditional motifs and layering techniques to create prints with a contemporary aesthetic. Participants will spend the first two days creating their own fabric print that will be turned into a kimono-style shirt or short kaftan on the third day of the workshop. Utilizing multiple techniques drawn from the rich traditions of folk textiles from India including tie-dye, block printing, and hand-stitching, workshop participants will create a one-of-a-kind garment.
In conjunction with this special Guest Teaching Artist workshop, Khazana Arts and Textiles will host a trunk show of garments and accessories made by Sudarshan as well as a community conversation with Hemangini. For additional information about these related programs, please visit khazana.com.
For our out of town guests, nearby accommodations are available with our partner hotel, Hampton Inn and Suites, University Ave. in Minneapolis. For the special Textile Center rate and more info, visit our website here: textilecentermn.org/visit/

Hemangini Rathore is founder of Sudarshan, a thriving artist collective that aims to preserve and promote traditional techniques and motifs found in folk textiles from India by creating contemporary designs and products. Through Sudarshan, Hemangini brings together ancient hand-block printing methods and patterns centered around the city of Jaipur, Rajasthan alongside hand-stitching, -weaving, and -dyeing traditions from neighboring states of Gujarat and Jammu-Kashmir. Sudarshan specializes in creating luxurious, contemporary garments and accessories that draw upon the ancient textile traditions of India to ensure that these traditions, and the indigenous artisan communities who make them, continue to survive and thrive. Sudarshan’s work has been featured in the retail spaces of MOMA New York, SF MOMA, the Freer-Sackler Galleries, and the Rubin Museum New York.
