Deepen, develop, and explore your studio practice in this 4-day workshop with Guest Teaching Artist Pate Conaway. Use the vehicle of sculpture and assemblage to generate work, exercise voice, and investigate the creative process. Learn to tell stories with found objects and fiber through a series of generative exercises that reinforce working principles and encourage exploration and discovery. Discuss installation strategies and collective gallery experience. Open to any level artist (beginners to established), anyone who wants to build, maintain, and stimulate their studio practice.

Instructor Bio:

Pate Conaway (he/him) is a graduate of Chicago’s Second City Training Center and received his MFA from Columbia College, Chicago (2000). His work explores the connection between visual art and performance, often applying the principles of one discipline to another. As with improvisation techniques for the stage, Pate looks for inspiration from commonplace objects or everyday situations. After learning to knit, Pate spent five weeks at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago knitting a pair of mittens large enough for him to sleep in.
