Join us for a special summer season Craft Night! Learn the ecologically friendly process of transferring floral pigments onto fabric. Textile Center will provide pre-mordanted cotton bandanas and a selection of flowers from A Garden to Dye For. Students are welcome to bring flowers and leaves foraged from their own gardens to add to the mix.* This fun and informal introduction to flower pounding opens up a world of possibilities for creating color on fiber in ways that are both healthy for us and for our planet.
Craft Night is a monthly social gathering for crafters of all levels to come together in a fun, welcoming space to work on the Craft Night project. Textile Center will provide written instructions and demonstrations for the Craft Night project; however, for more intensive instruction or one-on-one support, please join one of our core adult classes or intergenerational classes.
*Flowers and leaves that work particularly well for this process include:
-Marigolds
-Cosmos of any color and variety
-Sunflowers and related flowers
-Asters
-Roses and Wild Roses
-Most green botanical leaves and stems of most plant varieties
Cut your flowers as close to the time of use as possible (preferably within 12 hours of the class)
Avoid going to the grocery stores for bouquets as they often contain synthetic pigments and chemicals
