Thursday, April 2, and Friday, April 3, 2026
10 am – 4 pm each day
Riley Kleve
Do you love bright, brilliant color? Would you like to create your own hand-dyed yarn for knitting and crochet projects? This class is for you! Learn to dye wool yarn with acid dyes in this 2-day introductory workshop (note: don’t be afraid by the name, the “acid” refers to citric acid or vinegar added to the dye vat to ensure good color absorption). Explore basic color theory and its nuances when it comes to blending dyes. Learn to create harmonic color families while making multicolor skeins designed for planned pooling, mini skeins for projects in stranded colorwork, sock blanks, and beyond. Whether you’re a precise planner or prefer a bit more spontaneity in your craft, learn to work with acid dyes in a way that is engaging, safe, and successful. Participants will leave class with dyed yarn ready for their next projects. All levels welcome. Youth crafters ages 12 years and up are invited to join if accompanied by an adult who is also registered for the class.
BONUS: This class counts as a Dye Lab Training, which means that students who complete this class will have the option to rent Textile Center’s Dye Lab for their future dyeing projects! For anyone registered participants who are interested in additional time in the Dye Lab after the 2-day workshop completes, please plan to join the instructor for an optional free day of dyeing on Saturday, April 4, 2026. Please register your intent to participate in this extra day directly with the instructor during the course of the regular workshop.
