This culminating exhibition marks the accomplishments of the 2017 Jerome Fellows working in textile traditions, materials and sensibilities. Through the Jerome Fiber Artists Project Grant program, Textile Center supports and celebrates the creative spirit of emerging fiber artists by helping them develop professionally and thrive in their studios. Generously funded by and in partnership with the Jerome Foundation, these grants provide annual funding for individual artist projects that inform and advance the development and creation of new artistic work.
The work of this year’s fellows represents a broad spectrum of possibilities in artistic practice. From a piece of thread that loops its way to create a new path that occupies small moments in space; to imagery layered from additive and subtractive processes that lift and deposit residue, energy and color; to a nod to life’s twists and turns in vivid color that breaks down the battle between the mind’s dark and light thoughts; to a body and its skin, revered in all its beauty, both sublime and abject—Loop-Rust-Skin-Mind is an exhibit about growth and the freedom to push work to new heights.
Exhibitions are supported in part with funds from the Joan Mondale Endowment.
