Ladyslipper NeedleArts

Ladyslipper Needlework Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering and preserving needlework skills such as smocking and heirloom embroidery for our and future generations through quality workmanship, education, and promotion. The group began in April 1983 and was known as Minnesota Smockers, chartered through the Smocking Arts Guild of America (SAGA), an association of Needle Artists. In 1990, the affiliation with SAGA was dropped and we became the Ladyslipper NeedleArts Society and expanded the areas of needle arts that we encompassed.

The criteria for inclusion in studied needlework is that it be done with a threaded needle. Our members have different interests in needlework and cover all ages and skill levels. The techniques we practice include: smocking, silk ribbon embroidery, heirloom sewing, picture smocking, crazy quilting, Hardanger embroidery, tatting, shadow embroidery, hand and machine embroidery, and Battenberg lace.

Guests are encouraged to attend one of our meetings or events. We are a friendly, helpful group and are focused on teaching, learning, and appreciating fine needlework for clothing and decorative accessories. We meet on the 4th Monday of each month at 12:30 p.m., February through November. Our meetings consist of a business meeting, Show and Share, and a program demonstrating a needle art of interest to the group. In December, we gather for a holiday party. We hold a service workday in January to work on items to be donated to a chosen organization in need.
