A NORTHERN ARRAY of COLOR and TECHNIQUE

Presented by Duluth Fiber Guild, serving Duluth, Superior, NE Minnesota, and anyone interested in fiber arts!

We are pleased to share our Fiber Flags Traveling Exhibit, which was created by our members in celebration of our 50th Anniversary in 2023.  Each artist was given a 9” square of linen backed with a pre-sewn casing.  They were free to choose their design, technique, and materials as long as it fit on the square, was fiber related, and demonstrated an aspect of the Duluth Fiber Guild (DFG).  The 50 flags were produced by artists with skill levels from beginner to advanced.  Our Redo & Renew group assembled the hanging with repurposed cord and lace.

The Arrowhead region of the state is known for the crystal cold water of Lake Superior, boreal forest, agates, granite, and basalt rock formations.  Our long winters, with awesome snow and spectacular Aurora Borealis, give us time to explore a variety of techniques and a boldness to experiment, leading many to expertise in a number of textile practices. The colors and shapes of our seasonal landscape inspire our creations, as do local resources of sheep, alpaca, dye plants, flax, and birch bark, all part of the heritage we are proud to display.
