Art Cloth Network: Full Circle

Virtual Exhibition

Original Exhibition Dates:  July 7 – October 10, 2020 • Community Gallery

Twenty years young! Congratulations to 27 member-artists of the Art Cloth Network, who engaged with textile and fiber art techniques and practices to celebrate all things surface design! From tradition to innovation and back, this exhibition proves true that fiber and textiles are still new frontiers for artists, even for those who have mined the depths for years. Dyeing, piecing, appliqué, stitching, painting, binding, ripping, mending, and sculpting until it’s done — all of this added up to a wealth of process, directed with intention, from the mind to the hand and into each final work. Through imagery, sensibility, and concept, the work swirls around rites of passage, joy, loss, serendipity, opportunity, and careful examination of life on Earth as we know and imagine it to be. The circle is affirmed as a powerful element- standing in for chaos and and order, construction and deconstruction, strength and fragility.

Diversity in imagery and process showcase a breadth of the possibilities in contemporary fiber arts practice. Art Cloth Network members are responsible for sustaining each other’s artistic development through critique and engagement, while continuing to push forward in their own committed studio practices. Thank you all for letting Textile Center help celebrate your 20th Anniversary!
