Silk, wool, cotton, oh my! When accumulating a healthy stash of fabric and yarn, it can be easy to lose track of what’s made out of what. Can a hat made with this yarn be machine washed? Will that fabric keep you cool in hot weather or leave you sweltering? Get rid of the guesswork by learning how to identify different fibers by how they burn. It’s science!

Learn through hands-on practice, burning a variety of fabric and yarn samples provided by instructor and professional fiber flambé-er Riley Kleve. Bring in a mystery material to identify in class as well! Students will leave class with a zine on fabric identification, illustrated with your test swatches from class.

Ages 18+. A $15 materials fee is due to the instructor at the start of class and includes zine supplies and handout, fiber samples, matches, tweezers and magnifying tools.

Optional: Bring one piece of a mystery fabric or yarn to identify in class. Fabric should be about the size of a sheet of paper, and yarn should be about two feet long.
