Take your tapestry weaving to the next level! This 4-week course will be filled with playful material experimentation and opportunities to expand your tapestry weaving techniques. Students will learn how to make organic shapes on the loom as well as how to incorporate unconventional materials into their woven works with materials like rope, wire, chain, plants, beads, and more! A basic understanding of tapestry weaving is highly recommended to take this class. Students are encouraged to bring any unconventional materials they may want to work with during class.
$40 materials fee, payable to the instructor at the start of class, includes all supplies needed for weaving projects.
Instructor Bio:
Andy Jacobs is an interdisciplinary artist and educator who works with the mediums of fibers/textiles, sculpture, drawing, and installation. As a self taught weaver, she has developed a style of tapestry weaving that pushes against the rectilinear grid of the loom, and she weaves organic forms that resemble forms found in the natural world. Her work contemplates ecology, ephemerality, interconnection, and cyclicality. She holds an MFA in Fine Art from Maine College of Art and Design, and a BFA in Fine Art from Pacific Northwest College of Art, her studio practice is based in her studio in the Casket Arts Building in NE Minneapolis, and she often teaches workshops and classes around the Twin Cities. andyjacobs.art, @andy___jacobs
