MEMBER ART LOAN AGREEMENT
A Common Thread 2026 • Annual Member Exhibition
This document and your acceptance of it by initialing after “I Agree” on the Call for Entry constitutes an agreement as stated below, between Textile Center and Textile Center Member, hereafter known as “Member.”
Important Dates and Loan Agreement
- Entry Deadline: Friday June 15, 2026, or until the show reached physical capacity (In 2024, we had over 170 pieces. This year, it will be less due to the expansion of our Library collection.)
- Entry Fee: $25 for one entry; Work cannot have been shown at Textile Center before. Must be made 2025 or 2026 (keep it fresh!). Membership must be current as of your application AND opening date of the exhibition, July 30, 2026.
- Artwork Delivery Time and Dates:
- Wednesday, July 15, 1 – 7 pm
- Thursday, July 16, 10 am – 7 pm
- Friday, July 17, 10 am – 4 pm
- Exhibition Run: Thursday, July 30– Saturday, October 10, 2026
- Art Work Pick-up: Tuesday – Thursday, October 13 – 15, 2026, 10 am – 7pm; Work requiring return shipment will be sent in late November.
- Loan Period: July 15 – October 15, 2026
- Exhibition Opens: Thursday, July 30, 2026
- Public Reception: Thursday, August 6, 2026, 5 – 7 pm
Member agrees to loan one piece of fiber art for exhibition in Textile Center Galleries for exhibition in A Common Thread during the Loan Period shown above. Artwork shall remain in the Galleries for the duration of the exhibition.
Preparation of Work for Exhibition and Size limitations
Artist shall deliver artwork that is WITHIN THE LIMITATIONS described below, and is complete and ready for installation including anything necessary for proper exhibition (hanging wire, hanging sleeve sewn in with a hanging stick, etc.). Member may furnish special display fixtures; however, final installation decisions are reserved by Textile Center. Textile Center will complete all installation of artwork, unless otherwise agreed upon by Textile Center. Artwork will be subject to review, with particular regard to hanging preparedness and size of work. Textile Center reserves the right to refuse any artwork. Artist allows photography of artwork during the exhibition, and permits Textile Center to reproduce provided image of artwork for publicity and/or promotion prior to, during or subsequent to the exhibition.
Limitations on Work
- Maximum size for 2-dimensional pieces is a total perimeter measurement (drawn as a SQUARE around all sides of the piece) of no more than 144 inches, frame included. This must also include the space necessary between segments of diptychs or other multiple piece works.
- Oversized work is not allowed, so please measure TWICE and be sure the measurements listed in your application are correct.
- 3-dimensional pieces are presented on pedestals (we provide) or on the floor. The maximum size is 36 inches by 36 inches by 36 inches, or proportional. H x W x D added together cannot exceed 108″.
- Garments and wearable art must be life-sized or smaller. We will provide dress forms and mannequins. Otherwise, work will be draped to fit a 2-dimensional surface not to exceed the 144″ square limitation and will be hung in front of or on a wall, based on curatorial discretion.
- Heavy suspended works, over 5 pounds, cannot be installed from the ceiling, and may not be accommodated due to safety and access considerations.
- Objects protruding from the wall more than 6 inches may not be accommodated due to safety and access considerations.
Shipping (for those who cannot deliver by hand)
Member shall be responsible for all costs of shipping artwork to and from Textile Center, including transit insurance and delivery confirmation. NOTE: Please include RETURN SHIPPING POSTAGE/SHIPPER LABEL with any shipped work. Any shipping costs incurred by Textile Center shall be reimbursed by the Member. Member must package all artwork so as to maintain adequate protection of artwork from damage during transit. Textile Center will re-package artwork in a reasonable manner for return shipping to Member. Member’s packaging will be used, unless Textile Center deems it unsafe for return shipping. Any additional costs for re-packaging incurred by Textile Center shall be reimbursed by the Member. Textile Center assumes no responsibility of damage to artwork during shipping or while in transit.
Insurance
Textile Center is responsible for providing insurance for direct physical loss of or damage to artwork in its care, custody, or control for the purpose of display, sales, etc. Insurance coverage amount will not exceed 60% of the the Retail Price, or the Insurance Value (for NFS artworks) provided by Artist. Artworks that are valued at $5,000 or more must be accompanied by an appraisal, to be placed on file with our insurance company. Insurance claims are subject to plan policies and insurance adjustment processes. Artist will maintain adequate property insurance coverage for their artwork during transit to and from Textile Center.
Sales & Commission
Textile Center shall retain 40% (percent) commission on all sales of artwork during the Loan Period Dates shown above and for 30 days thereafter, as a direct result of the exhibition. Any additional artwork brokered by Textile Center for the Member during the Loan Period and for 30 days thereafter as a direct result of the exhibition, Textile Center shall retain 20% (percent) commission. Commissions are paid within 30 days of end of exhibition.
Agree to be considered to participate in State Fair exhibit in 2027 or 2028
Textile Center curates a small selection of work from A Common Thread 2026 for our display in the Creative Activities building at the 2027 and 2028 Minnesota State Fair. If you want to be considered for either of these exhibits, please indicate this in the corresponding section of the application. Work is NOT for sale during this particular exhibit period. You will be contacted in the summers of 2027 and 2028, respectively, by staff who organize this. The terms of this contract is binding for this exhibit, should your work be selected.
Agree to be considered to participate in Selections from A Common Thread touring exhibit through March 2027
As part of Minnesota Handwork, Textile Center is organizing a tour of a small selection of work from A Common Thread 2026 for Selections from A Common Thread. This curated collection will tour to 2-3 sites in Greater MN, through March 2027. If you want to be considered for this exhibit, please indicate this in the corresponding section of the application. You will be contacted in the future by staff who organize this. The terms of this contract is binding for this touring exhibit, should your work be selected.
