Rita Chuk-Petroskas
Are you looking for new ways to experiment with sustainability and fiber art making? This class is for you! Explore embroidery, applique, and stitch-collaging techniques to creatively turn trash into fiber art treasure. Learn basic embroidery stitches (straight stitch, running stitch, French knots, chain stitch, and couching) and how to use them to attach recycled and discarded items such as plastic bottle caps, packaging, bags, straws, etc. onto woven fabric. Think creatively about layering and building texture with found objects and stitches. Come away with an experimental sample swatch and new ideas for making your fiber art practice more sustainable. All levels welcome.

Instructor Bio:
Rita Chuk-Petroskas (she/her) is a fiber artist with a background in textile design, and I enjoy working with a variety of techniques including weaving, macramé, embroidery, and crochet. While much of my work is self-taught, I’ve also spent years learning through many classes and workshops. A favorite way to bring it all together is by incorporating recycled and found materials into my embroidery, often combining them with the thread and yarn stashes I’ve collected over the years. It allows me to make work that is unique, personal and sustainable. @ritabooshop
