Broken zipper on your favorite jacket getting you down? No problem! Join the mending movement and learn how to make basic zipper repairs on any garment. Familiarize yourself with the different components of zippers, such as sliders and stoppers, and be able to differentiate the three main types of zippers (e.g. vislon, coil, and metal). Learn about the various sizes of zippers and their applications, as well as how to tell if a zipper is waterproof or “reverse.” Trouble shoot basic zipper issues such as broken or missing sliders, loose coil teeth, and jacket zippers popping open. Students are encouraged to bring an item from home with zipper issues for everyone to learn from and potentially fix in class.
