Join Martha of Buried Diamond for a 3-day Guest Teaching Artist workshop on heirloom sewing techniques. Learn how to create tucks, lace insertions, and handmade trims, and how to apply them to wearable contemporary garments. Begin with swatch-making and material exploration and move into learning how to apply these techniques to any commercial pattern. Leave class with swatches, fresh ideas, and a completed (or nearly completed) garment. Open to confident beginners (and above) who have successfully sewn a garment using a sewing machine and commercial pattern.

Instructor Bio:
Martha Moore Porter (she/her) is a home sewer and instructor with a background as a professional textile designer in the fashion industry. She began sewing on the machine at age 12 and hasn’t looked back. Her love of fabrics led her to a BFA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design. After school, Martha moved to NYC where she designed textiles for many brands, working on everything from glam runway looks to custom rugs and wallpaper. Martha brings her design process and elevated sensibility into the sewing room, where she is known for her enthusiasm for materials and advanced techniques. Withdrawal Policy
If your notice of withdrawal is received by the early bird deadline for this workshop, you will receive a 50% refund of your workshop fee. Due to the scheduling nature of these classes and arrangements for instructors, no refunds are available after that. We will be happy to provide you with a receipt for your donation to Textile Center for any forfeited tuition. Please make this request in writing to mlindahl@textilecentermn.org.
