Take a stab at embroidery and make an on-the-go project bag! Youth ages 7-12 years old will gain confidence with needlework and learn the basics of embroidery, including threading a needle, tying a knot, using an embroidery hoop, and beginner stitchwork. Participants will create their own needle book and personalized tote bag to store supplies so they can take their newfound embroidery skills wherever they go!
Recommended for kids ages 7-12 yrs.

Textile Center’s Future Fiber Artists program is specially supported by the Denise Ann Richter Youth Fiber Art Fund. The Future Fiber Artists program aims to cultivate the next generation of fiber art enthusiasts and help foster excitement, confidence, and competency in youth ages 7-12 years old around needle-based fiber arts such as crocheting, knitting, embroidery, and hand-stitching.

Instructor Bio:
Alla Hale (she/her) is a knitter based in St. Paul, Minnesota who uses fiber art to embrace her core values of creativity and connection. Each piece she creates speaks to the profound beauty of working with her hands, transforming raw materials into something functional, beautiful, or otherwise meaningful.
Alla sources her materials locally, partnering with local shepherds and foraging for dye plants in the Minnesota landscape. This practice roots her work in the community and the land, fostering a deep sense of connection to both. Teaching fiber art classes privately and with Textile Center around the Twin Cities is an extension of this connection. Through her classes she shares the skills and joy of knitting and other fiber arts, and occasionally painting, helping others discover the expressive power of fiber art.
As a practicing data scientist, Alla is captivated by the intricate designs that emerge from seemingly simple elements. The combination of each stitch, stroke, data point, and raw material tells complex and harmonious stories.
Her work celebrates the interconnectedness of community, nature, and pattern seeking.
