Ready for a wardrobe refresh? Transform old garments or home linens with Textile Center’s Community Dye Bath! Here’s how it works:
Sign up for a one-hour time slot, where you’ll receive step-by-step guidance through the process of vat dyeing using Procion MX fiber reactive dyes. There will be time and space for participants to experiment with resist tying techniques on their own before dyeing their items. All levels welcome
Each registered participant can bring up to 2 garments or 2 yards of fabric per person:
– Natural cellulose fibers only (aka 100% cotton, linen, bamboo). Any garments or fabrics which are made from a percentage of acrylic or polyester will not take on the dye color as vividly.
– All garments or fabric must be thoroughly washed with soap and water at home before coming to the Community Dye Bath.
Items dyed in the community dye bath must remain submerged in dye for at least 12 hours to achieve vivid color results. Participants have the option of taking their dyed items home in a provided leak-proof bag, to be washed and rinsed the following day according to print and tutorial instructions, or to leave their items at Textile Center to be rinsed and readied for pick up the following business day.
