A Twin Cities Fiber Art Excursion with the National Artist Advisory Council!
Thursday, March 9 • 10 am to 3 pm
Bus departs from and returns to Textile Center
Join us for a Fiber Art Excursion with our National Artist Advisory Council! Textile Center will be hosting a very special day tour to both the Weisman Art Museum (WAM) at the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota History Center.
- At the WAM, you will get the fiber art perspective of Director and Chief Curator Lyndel King and our Advisory Council Chair Carolyn Halliday, speaking about WAM’s exhibition Dear Darwin, featuring the work of Vesna Kittleson and NY-based artist Julia Randall, in addition to Carolyn Halliday (center image). Dear Darwin presents their individual explorations on the themes of natural science, evolution, and the figure of Darwin himself. There will be time to peruse their gift shop.
- Then off to the Campus Club for lunch, with great views of downtown Minneapolis and the Mississippi River Valley.
- Lastly, at the Minnesota History Center, we will have access to permanent collections that are not usually on public view, seeing the work of Minnesota textile artists including wearable art to quilts, jewelry and beads to baskets–something of interest for every guild and fiber enthusiast. Our hosts for this glimpse into our state’s fabulous treasure trove of fiber art will be Linda McShannock, Associate Curator, Textiles & Clothing (and past Textile Center Board Chair), Lori Williamson, Acquisitions & Outreach Coordinator, and Ben Gessner, American Indian and Fine Arts Collections Associate of the Native American Artist in Residence program. There will be time to view the exhibits and visit the gift shop.
Price includes bus travel, lunch (sandwich buffet), and admission to all institutions.
