Will you help support the publication of We Are the Story: A Visual Response to Racism?
Since September 2020, Textile Center and Women of Color Quilters Network (WCQN) have been presenting more than 100 quilts in Minnesota through We Are the Story, a series of group and solo exhibitions curated by Carolyn L. Mazloomi (who we know through working together on behalf of Textile Center).
We Are the Story came together with urgency last summer, and the first exhibitions were mounted three months following the horrific murder of George Floyd, a Black man who died as Officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nine minutes and twenty-nine seconds in Minneapolis.
We are writing today to seek your financial support in helping us to publish the 250-page We Are the Story: A Visual Response to Racism book by Carolyn L. Mazloomi.
While Textile Center and its exhibition partners (Minneapolis Institute of Art, Weisman Art Museum, American Swedish Institute, Lanesboro Arts, and Studio 106) worked to make these quilts as accessible as possible for public viewing during the pandemic, but with access limited to exhibitions, this book will significantly enhance access to these quilts and live on long after the exhibitions end.
Will you support our campaign to raise $20,000 to publish this catalogue by mid-May? Your tax-deductible gift made to Textile Center in support of this campaign will help ensure that We Are the Story: A Visual Response to Racism will be distributed to school and public libraries locally and nationally and will help defray the costs that retail sales alone cannot cover. Donations can be made online below. (Please include the word “book” in the notes section.) You may also mail a check to: Textile Center, 3000 University Ave. SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414. Thank you for your support for We Are the Story.
