The Bog Coat • February 2 and 4
Adult, Adult Classes, Featured Class
Tuesday, February 2 and Thursday, February 4, 12 – 3 pm
Learn to sew a Bog Coat based on an ancient woven garment found in a bog in Denmark. This pattern-less coat is low waste, environmentally friendly, and has so many possibilities! It is easy to make with 1 ½ yards of 54” wide fabric so bring the good stuff! The coat is basically one piece of fabric with cuffs and a collar. To help inspire students, Ella will be bringing in several coats for students to try on and inspect for design details so you get yours just right. Great for hand woven fabrics, hand painted or dyed pieces you have had trouble cutting, new large digital prints or that great throw blanket you got on a trip. It is a one size fits most pattern and works best with fabrics that drape well: wool, linen, silk and some blends. Materials fee $10 – $25, payable to the instructor – depending on how much of the instructor’s materials you use. **See supply list of items to bring to class**

Ella Ramsey has been sewing since she was 8 and made her first coat at 11, sparking her interest in all types of textiles. She produces garments that are low waste and combines felted, hand dyed, and handwoven pieces to make one of a kind garments that are attractive, fun, and comfortable. Ramsey is best known for her Vionnet Spiral dresses (and her sailing skills!). She is a member of Wearable Arts Midwest, the Minnesota Feltmakers’ Guild, and the Weavers Guild of Minnesota, and is Past President of Textile Center’s Board of Directors.
