Are you looking to reduce waste in your everyday life? Sustainable Sewing is for you! Learn to make and sew fabric replacements for everyday paper products including towels, napkins, and cosmetic rounds. Learn the basic techniques to create your own zero-waste reuseable swaps and be inspired for ways you can shrink your carbon footprint, while using up fabric that is already in your stash! Bring your sewing machine with zig-zag function, in good working condition. Basic sewing experience encouraged. Beginners are welcome!

Instructor Bio:

Laura Wennstrom holds an MFA in New Media from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to this, she received her undergraduate degree in Studio Art from North Park University in Chicago. As an artist who work in a multi-media and textile-based practice, she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the country. Wennstrom has taught children and adults for the past 10 years as an instructor at Bethel University, Parkland College, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and the East Side Arts Council. She is a 2021 McKnight Fellowships for Fiber Artists finalist and currently works in her Minneapolis studio.     laurawennstrom.com

Withdrawal Policy

If you need to withdraw from class and you send a withdrawal request at least 5 business days before the start of your workshop, you may receive a refund (minus a $25 processing fee). Alternatively, you may transfer your full tuition to another currently listed class or convert your full tuition into a tax-deductible donation to Textile Center.

We are unable to provide a refund or make a tuition transfer if your notice of withdrawal is received less than 5 business days before the start of your workshop, except in the case of illness or health risk (please see COVID-19 tuition transfer policy here). In this case, your tuition can be converted to a tax-deductible donation to Textile Center. We will be happy to provide you with a receipt for your donation if you request one.
