Arashi shibori is a Japanese resist dyeing technique, which produces “storm-like” patterns on fabric. Learn to wrap your fabric around a pole, scrunching it into small pleats, and bind it with rope. Basic immersion dyeing techniques will be discussed, and students will learn an adapted direct application method. A simple batching method using premixed dyes will add either vibrant or subtle color to your textiles–you choose–bringing life to your folded and wrapped patterns. By the end of class, students will be able to define shibori and its history, apply basic arashi techniques to dye projects, apply dyeing techniques, and recognize the different color results between silk & cotton. Students will need to bring two white silk or 100% natural fiber scarf to the class–washed and ready to dye. You can order one through our shop HERE to have it at your desk for class. Please see the materials list for more information.

Materials fee is $15, payable to the instructor at the time of class, and includes dyes and other supplies.
