Scandinavian Holiday Ornaments • December 7Adult, Classes, Education
Saturday, December 7, 10 am – 1 pm
Learn about the skill of wheat weaving as it is done in Europe and Scandinavia, and make several Scandinavian holiday decorations for your house or tree. You’ll learn how to clean and prepare the wheat, tie it, and twist or plait (braid) it to make your own figurines. Leave class with a goat and a tomte or two (and maybe a simple plaited ornament), and wheat to take home for more weaving there. Great for beginners and the full family! Older children (8-12 years) are welcome to participate with an adult; only one needs to register for a family project. Please note: students will be tying knots in thread so general finger dexterity is needed. Materials fee $10, payable to instructor. **See supply list of items to bring to class**
Bonnie Buzza, a former college teacher and administrator, is an avid crafter focusing on fiber work and basketry. She loves plaiting and tying wheat in part, to celebrate a Swedish heritage and in part, to try to keep this ancient art alive. She is one of the few Minnesota members of the National Association of Wheat Weavers.
If you plan to attend with a child, please email email@example.com upon registration.
