Polymer Clay Mokume Gane Pens • February 6Adult, Classes, Education
Wednesday, February 6, 6:30-9 pm
Learn the magical technique of mokume gane, based on Japanese metalworking, and learn how to cover 3 or 4 ink pens to keep for yourself or give as gifts! From versatile polymer clay, construct a striped slab of different colored layers and then distort the layers by piercing and stabbing. Thin layers are then sliced off to embellish the pens. This technique looks even better when you include metallic or glitter colors, and is surprisingly easy to accomplish. Participants will receive baking instructions to cure their projects at home. Materials fee $10, payable to instructor.
Ten years ago, the medium of polymer clay captured Laura Burlis’ imagination and she has been developing her own style of working with it ever since. Burlis teaches polymer clay workshops throughout the Twin Cities and has shown her work at fairs and galleries including the Minnesota State Fair. In 2016, she completed a two-year mentorship with Layl McDill through the Women’s Art Registry of Minnesota, and studied at the Queensland School of Art, Australia, L’Accademia di Belle Arti, Italy, and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Most recently, Burlis was Artist in Residence at Glacier National Park in Montana in 2017.
