Jennifer Lee
Create a Mokok Basket with special visiting basketry artist Jennifer Lee. Made from bark and stitched with spruce roots, a Mokok is a Northeast woodland Native American style container with a rectangular bottom and round or oval top (different from a Scored and Folded Basket – check out our workshop to learn more!). Originally used to harvest and store food and accoutrements, Mokoks are used by several Northeast woodland tribes. Learn to prepare and sew with spruce roots onto white pine or ash bark. Gain insight into the sustainable harvesting of bark, roots, and red willow. Embellish your Mokok with a collar and/or appliqué. All levels welcome, no previous basketry experience required.
Participants are able to register to make one of the following Mokok Baskets during this workshop, exact size and shape dependent on the wild nature of these materials: a Trinket (4 hour option), a Small Mokok (6 hour option), or a Medium Mokok (8 hour option).
*Materials fee $100-$150 per person depending on the size of the basket you choose. Trinket size is $100, Small size is $120, and Medium Size is $150.
