Sophia Munic
Explore your sense of play while you learn basic 3-D patternmaking skills, and get sustainable with your creative practice by upcycling your favorite fabric scraps into a unique playful creature! Different styles of patternmaking will be covered in this workshop, along with presentations of contemporary artists working with stuffed forms and upcycled materials. Discover how color, pattern, and texture interfaces with form, improvisational sewing skills, and found fabrics and materials. Basic sewing skills are necessary and a sewing machine is required for this class. Please bring your own machine, in good working condition. You must have the ability to operate it independently, as this is not a learn-to-sew class.

Instructor Bio:
Sophia Munic (they/them) is a multimedia artist enthralled by all things “play.” Working predominantly with fiber to extend the vocabulary of whimsy, they create work that theorizes what inclusive and gender-fluid childhood toys could look like. Munic often creates interactive work as a way for participants to reconnect to their inner child while exploring the “function” of the object itself. Their interests also include the realms of recycling fabrics and upcycling clothing. sophiamunic.com
