Patricia Freiert

The looped wire of the maki-age (winding) stand is a third hand which allows the shibori artist to tightly bind stitched forms, gathered shapes, and some types of capping (Boshi). Learn to bind and cap both regular and irregular shapes with this stand. Study a large collection of maki-age samples by mostly Japanese or Chinese artists. Then, dye your own. Come away with three examples exploring this technique! Students should be comfortable sewing a running stitch. Materials fee $55, payable to instructor. **See supply list of items to bring to class**
