Ceci Lewis

Using plants from Textile Center’s A Garden to Dye For, learn how to work with natural dyes, building layers and depth of color on fabric. Students will explore working with transparent layers of color to create pattern and richness using tied and folded resist processes. Work bold or subtle, whichever suits you–just come for a day of experimentation while learning to harvest a range of plants and discover the fabulous hues they provide in combination with each other. Previous natural dye experience recommended. Materials fee $25, payable to instructor. **See supply list of items to bring to class**

Instructor Bio:

Ceci Lewis has been a garment sewer more than fifty years, with indigo and other natural dyes prominent in her work. Utilizing and teaching sustainable practices is her specialty. She has cultivated a rainbow of natural dye colors in her postage stamp sized yard and shared natural dyeing with more than a thousand children in the metro area. Lewis served a lead artist in collaboration with Penumbra Theatre, Textile Center, and many talented quilters for the “Black Nativity”. For the last twenty years dyeing, quilt making, and long-arm quilting have taken over her life. Her quilt, New World is part of the Minnesota History Center’s permanent collection.
