Adil Mustak Khatri
Learn traditional Kutch-style bandhani (tie dye) with visiting teaching artist Adil Khatri, an expert dyer and renowned bandhani artist. Using techniques that combine bandhani (tiny dots), shibori (stitched resist), and clamp dye, create innovative surface design effects to transform fabric. Gain insight into fundamental resist-dyeing techniques from the Kutch region of Gujarat, India and then make them your own by incorporating personalized motifs and patterns to use in all of your future fiber art projects. All levels welcome.

Instructor Bio:
Adil Mustak Khatri (he/him) comes from a longline of expert dyers in the region of Kutch in Gujarat, India, and has worked hard to revive and innovate this family tradition. A graduate of the artisan design programs at both Kala Raksha Vidhyalaya and Somaiya Kala Vidya, Adil has sought to push as many boundaries as possible to create highly textured and compositionally rich bandhani and shibori. Through his brand Nilak and working in collaboration with his wife and creative partner Zakiya, Adil creates an ever-evolving collection of textiles inspired by Islamic architecture, natural dyeing techniques, and the contemporary world around him. In 2015 Adil was awarded a Gujarat State Award for Excellence in Craft, followed in 2018 by the Crafts Council of India’s Kamala Award for Young Artisans. He is also a recipient of the World Crafts Council seal of excellence, and in 2020 and 2022 was juried into the highly competitive International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe. Adil has traveled internationally to conduct workshops including through the Museo Textil de Oaxaca and as part of an artisan exchange with the country of Denmark.

Withdrawal Policy
If you need to withdraw from a class, please email Cristin McKnight Sethi, Director of Education, at cmcknightsethi@textilecentermn.org.
If your withdrawal request is received at least 10 business days before the start of your class, you are eligible to (pick one):
1) Receive a tuition refund (minus a $25 processing fee). 2) Transfer your full tuition to another currently listed class (i.e. a class that is listed on the website at the time of your withdrawal request). 3) Convert your full tuition into a tax-deductible donation to Textile Center. We will be happy to provide you with a receipt for your donation if you request one.
If your withdrawal request is received less than 10 business days before the start of your class, you are eligible to (pick one):
1) Transfer your class spot to another person (i.e. gift your class registration to a friend, neighbor, or family member). You must communicate any transferring of class registration to Cristin McKnight Sethi (cmcknightsethi@textilecentermn.org). Please let Cristin know the name and email address of the person who will be taking your spot in class. 2) Convert your full tuition into a tax-deductible donation to Textile Center. We will be happy to provide you with a receipt for your donation if you request one.
We are unable to provide a refund or make a tuition transfer if your notice of withdrawal is received less than 10 business days before the start of your class. This includes in cases of COVID-19, other illnesses, or medical emergencies.
