Storytelling and metaphor are all part of the work we do and reference as artists. Textile Center is thrilled to welcome Jason Pollen in this special mixed media surface design adventure to work through ideas and tell a story using a mixed media approach to working in textiles. Your stash, scraps, and personal objects are ripe and waiting to become an active part of your creative practice as you integrate them with painting, stitching, and sewn construction. Don’t miss this opportunity to work in an intimate setting with a long-time leader in the field of fiber art. Please bring a working sewing machine with you to class. A $15 supply fee will be charged for glue and Pellon, provided by Textile Center, payable during class.
Jason Pollen’s series of Descendants have traveled to exhibitions around the country, and are included in Silver Jubilee here at Textile Center. He is an internationally acclaimed artist, designer and educator who has been on the faculties of the Royal College of Art in London, Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute in New York City, and as Professor and Chair of the Fiber Department at the Kansas City Art Institute where he is Professor Emeritus. In addition, he is President emeritus of the Surface Design Association, and an American Craft Council Fellow. The Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina honored him with the Outstanding Artist Educator Award in 2012. www.jasonpollen.com
