James Morehouse

Learn one of the earliest forms of surface stitching–the art of Jacobean Crewel embroidery–to create a traditionally inspired design. This embroidery style was developed in the 17th century as a way to create fanciful interpretations of nature using a vast repertoire of stitches, colorful wools, and creative depictions of flora and fauna. In this three-part class, students will learn 19 different stitches that form the basis of Jacobean Crewel alongside the history of this rich embroidery form. Learn a traditional way of transferring designs from paper to fabric, and create a project that can be used as a pillow or wall hanging. Suitable for beginning students as well as more experienced embroiderers.

Materials fee is $25, payable to the instructor at the time of class.
