Make a small hand-tufted rug! Learn the basic skills needed to machine tuft your own small 2×3 ft rug and how to build an at-home tufting practice. Participants will make a tufted rug from start to finish, including a step-by-step process for designing, selecting materials, framing, and applying fabric for your tufted piece, as well as how to tuft with a tufting machine. Participants are encouraged to have a design in mind to tuft before class begins. Note: this workshops requires that participants stand for longer periods at a time. Please bring a K-95 face mask to wear when gluing the rug. Materials fee $60, payable to the instructor at the time of the class. All materials will be provided.
Instructor Bio:
Meg Brunston (they/them) is a fiber artist in Minneapolis, MN. Their creative practice is rooted in honoring their family’s lineage of quilt-makers, knitters, and seamstresses in the South, and their work is translated through multiple mediums, including technical weaving, apparel construction, machine tufting, and needle punch. These mediums allow Meg the opportunity to cultivate a brighter, more powerful relationship to themselves, revealing a mixture of emotion through color, movement, space, and shape.
