Karen Searle

Joomchi is a Korean method of bonding layers of paper together with water and a kneading process, similar to felting. This produces strong, textured papers which can be composed as artworks in themselves or used as substrates for other techniques such as stitching, drawing, painting, or adding fiber embellishments. While still wet, joomchi can also be formed into strong paper sculptures. Learn about paper selection and tips for achieving both smooth and textured joomchis. Using Hanji (mulberry) papers for the base, students will complete one collaged joomchi paper in class and start another that can be completed at home.

Materials fee is $35, payable to the instructor at the time of class.
