Leslie Granbeck

In this 8-week class geared for beginners, participants will explore personal expression through the creative medium of felting. Learn to felt using time honored techniques to create your own non-woven, structured fabrics that combine fibers, fabrics, and surface design with structure. A variety of wet felting and nuno felting techniques, along with design skills, are taught and refined through this sequence of classes as you explore this immediate and tactile medium. Texture, structure and manipulation of felted surfaces will be a focus. Students will design and felt a personalized project using their new felting skills. Class supplies for samples will be provided by Textile Center. A donation of supplies has made it possible for Textile Center to provide limited supplies for final projects, and students will likely need to provide additional supplies for their personal project. The cost for these will be dependent on the scope of the project. Completed projects will be featured in a culminating exhibition in our Library and Community Galleries at Textile Center.

Our INTERLACE program is supported by funding from Aroha Philanthropies’ Vitality Arts® program.

Instructor Bio:

An accomplished feltmaker, beader, and teacher for 20 years, Leslie Granbeck’s talents took a new direction when she discovered the technique of turning wool fibers into beads and jewelry. For Granbeck, feltmaking is magical, allowing her to turn simple wool fibers into beautiful scarves, purses, slippers, and garments. She teaches a variety of feltmaking techniques, and her classes are full of color, creativity, and adventure. (They also include a free workout as feltmaking is a “physical art.”) When not teaching, you’ll find her in the studio working on new fiber and bead project.
