Giovanna Fregni

Giovanna Fregni, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, is an archaeologist with a specialty in ancient crafts. While her degrees focused on Bronze Age metals, she developed an interest in fiber through her housemate, a textile archaeologist. Since then she has studied ancient and traditional textile tools and technology. She began making replicas of unusual Bronze Age spindle whorls and using them to spin wool from ancient sheep breeds. When she had to return from Europe due to COVID restrictions, she bought a lathe and began to make reproductions of ancient distaffs and supported spindles.
