Experience the alchemy of printing on fabric using local leaves! Discover how natural dyes and tannins found in leaves, flowers, and other plant materials can create beautiful monoprints when transferred to cloth with pressure and heat. Learn techniques for preparing and bundling cloth with leaves to create clear prints. Create a silk sampler to see how local leaves are printing at that particular time of year, then use what you’ve learned to print a silk scarf. Some reliable printers will be provided by the instructor, but it is recommended that you also bring some leaves from home you’d like to try, or possibly forage on-site from Textile Center’s A Garden to Dye For. Great for beginners!

Materials fee is $20, payable to the instructor at the time of class.

Instructor Bio:

Diane Gamm (she/her) has been working with botanical printing and natural dyes since 2015. She enjoys gathering plants from her dye and print garden and neighborhood, and printing in her art studio—a converted ice fishing house in her backyard. In addition to her creative pursuits, Diane loves to kayak and has worked in therapeutic recreation, outdoor education, and coordinated the arts and crafts program at Wilder Forest camp and retreat center for many years. While botanical printing is Diane’s current primary form of creative expression, she is also passionate about photography and pottery.  gammdesign.com
