Fez Embroidery: A Quick Trip to Morocco • September 25Adult, Classes, Education, Featured Class
Tuesday, September 25, 10 am-1 pm
Fez embroidery is a unique technique, as the front and back of a piece are identical, and no thread carries. Using a small Fez motif as your pattern, we will stitch on evenweave fabric. While stitching, students will discuss the history and influence of Fez embroidery, including contemporary textiles. Learn two basic stitches to complete the motif, and learn how to finish the piece. If time allows, we will begin a border stitch. Once you are finished, you can make your piece into a sachet bag, ornament, or frame it. Materials fee $5, payable to the instructor. **See supply list of items you need to bring with you to class**
Karen Weiberg began sewing and embroidering at age 7, exploring the textile arts through 4-H. (Discovering counted thread embroidery fulfilled the need for her stitches to be exactly the same length!) As an instructor, designer, fabric store manager, and yarn shop owner, Weiberg taught and helped customers with every kind of needlework for over 25 years. She continues to enrich her textile discoveries and was fortunate to have an excellent teacher share Fez embroidery during the Textile Center tour to Morocco. She is a member of the Textile Center, our Athena Society, a library volunteer, and a member of the Weavers Guild of Minnesota.
