Ivonne Yáñez
Explore the traditional art of bordado (embroidery) on papel amate — a handmade bark paper with a rich history in Mexican folk arts. Practice transferring simple patterns or original artwork onto amate paper and choose appropriate thread colors to enhance your design. Experiment by combining stitches like backstitch, satin stitch, and French knots with traditional Mexican embroidery styles. Learn how to blend the texture of amate paper with colorful embroidery threads, making intricate and beautiful designs inspired by traditional Mexican patterns or your own creativity. No prior experience with paper embroidery is required; however basic hand stitching skills such as knowing how to thread a needle and the ability to make simple stitches is a plus.
Materials fee is $15, payable to instructor at the time of class.
