Are you interested in learning how to embroider but can’t seem to find an embroidery project that fits your personal aesthetic? This workshop will take you step-by-step through the process of designing and stitching your very own unique piece of hand-embroidery. Join us for this “level-up” class to learn the basics of illustrated hand lettering and develop your own lettered design of a word or short phrase. Students will learn how to consider materials, stitches, and color in the design process. There will be a quick how-to review of embroidery stitches if needed, but this workshop is best for someone that has previously done basic hand-embroidery and feels comfortable wielding needle and thread! Materials fee of $10, payable to instructor at the start of class.

Instructor Bio:

Alanna Stapleton is a Minneapolis-based illustrator, textile artist and educator who works with digital illustration and hand-embroidery to explore the humor found in everyday experiences and the connections between objects and memory. Her work has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators NY and been shown across the Midwest at Soo Visual Arts Center, Cedarburg Art Museum, Light Grey Art Lab, Drake University, and more. Stapleton’s teaching practices center on accessible practices and meditative-based making, and she is a graduate of the MFA program at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.     alannastapleton.com
